The French capital will be the setting for the Olympic Games this summer. As in previous editions of the Games, UAntwerp students and alumni are competing for medals in Paris.

Five students and five alumni will compete for medals of honour in the shadow of the Eifel Tower. Quite a few players of the Red Lions and Red Panthers have - traditionally - a connection with UAntwerp's Faculty of Business and Economics: in the men's team, current student Arno Van Dessel and former students Félix Denayer, Alexander Hendrickx and Arthur De Sloover are part of the selection. For Denayer, it will already be his fifth Olympics.

Among the hockey women, FBE alumna Judith Vandermeiren is competing. She will play alongside two current students: Michelle Struijk (Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences) and Delphine Mariën (Faculty of Design Sciences).

In the ILCA6 class of sailing, student Eline Verstraelen (Faculty of Business and Economics) gets into her boat. UAntwerp is also present on the athletics track of the Stade de France: Janie Denayer, a student in the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, is backup runner for the Belgian Rockets, the 4×100m team. Christian Iguacel, an alumnus of rehabilitation sciences and physiotherapy, is also a former student in the selection for the teams of the 4x400m mixed relay and the 4x400m (Belgian Tornados).
