From 25 September onwards, chef Seppe Nobels and his Instroom Academy will be cooking for students of UAntwerp, AP University of Applied Sciences and Arts, and KASKA-DKO. At this Instroom Academy, Nobels trains non-Dutch speaking immigrants to be chefs. The project was created in 2021, in collaboration with Chris Bruyssinckx and the city of Antwerp. Formerly located at Stormkop, Instroom is now coming to the Mutsaard building.

The Mutsaard houses UAntwerp’s Faculty of Design Sciences, the Royal Academy of Fine Arts Antwerp at AP University of Applied Sciences and Arts, and KASKA-DKO. The restaurant will be located in the former sculpture gallery – designed by Pierre Bourla – overlooking the historic garden. The current Komida student restaurant is catering to hundreds of students, teachers and researchers every day.

Soulful kitchen in inspiring surroundings

The Mutsaard building, frequented by an international population that applauds creativity, diversity and sustainability, will be enriched with a soulful kitchen as of 25 September 2023. The soul is to be provided by Nobels’ sous-chefs, who will create signature dishes inspired by dishes from their native countries. After all, much like art, food connects people. Seeing how the Mutsaard is the creative hub of UAntwerp, AP University of Applied Sciences and KASKA-DKO, this collaboration is a match made in heaven.

As of 25 September, student restaurant Instroom [feeds] Academy! will be operational and accessible to students and staff of UAntwerp, AP University of Applied Sciences and KASKA-DKO (and their guests). Instroom’s main restaurant will stay in Stormkop a little while longer, but is scheduled to open for the general public in the Mutsaard building later this year.
